BIOSENSOR SYSTEMS
Axiom produces
several different designs of Biosensors for numerous applications. Smaller probes
may be equipped with only a tactile sensor for simplification, while the more elaborate Venustron System also has pressure and movement sensors which
make it especially effective for measuring visco-elasticity such as that of skin, essential for cosmetics and skin care research. Additionally
Axiom manufactures custom-made sensor systems some of which are shown below. |

sensor title below to view larger photos and more details.
Venustron
System
Especially effective for
cosmetics and skin care research! With computer control, this revolutionary
motor-driven sensor unit automatically presses down on surfaces such as those of muscle
and skin to provide simultaneous stiffness, pressure, and depression data. Changes in
compliance and visco-elasticity can be seen by analyzing the resulting graphs and data.
The motor can also be switched off for easy manual use. Please see the special Venustron Explanation to understand how
the system works and how to intrepret the resulting data.

Venus
Handy
Now available! This simple, small version of the Venustron System without the motor allows
for quick and convenient measurements which makes this sensor ideal for product promotion
and personal evaluation. The sensor probe is hand-held and gently applied to the surface
to be measured. Up to eight successive measurements can be displayed in the unit's window. |

Catheter Type
Designed with a 2mm diameter, the catheter-type is very effective for narrow areas such as
blood vessels and internal organs. Because of its simplicity and similarity with current
medical instruments, this type has been used in various fields of medical research such as
urology, obstetrics & gynecology, cardiology, thoracoscopy, dermatology, and surgery. |

Rod Type
Equipped with a micro-biosensor as in the catheter-type
and sealed in a hard shell, this type can be inserted into the body in arthroscopic
procedures and can be designed in accordance with its intended use. It has been used in
research for the detection of lung cancer and for internal organ measurements.

Pen Type
Built with pressure and depression sensors, the slim design makes this type
especially effective for accessibility to narrow areas of measurement. It has been used
for research on the effects of cosmetics on the skin, for penile rigidity measurements,
for pelvic floor and vaginal stiffness, and for the evaluation of the effectiveness of
acupuncture therapy. |

Needle Type II
Designed with a fine tapered tip that excludes pressure and depression
sensors, this type is like a hybrid of the Pen-Type and the original Needle Type and is
highly effective for hand-held pin-point measurements. Alternative designs for this type
have been developed for applications in dentistry. |

Biomechanical
Analysis System
With computer- controlled, motor-driven depression,
this system gives highly accurate stiffness measurements at small increments of 1 mm for
depth and 1 mg for pressure and is equipped with a computer touch-screen for easy
operation. Different Biosensor types, such as the needle-type, can be attached to the
measuring arm for various research purposes. |
